Digital pattern available for purchase on Payhip and Ravelry.

Lineage often refers to familial ancestry, but it can also refer to other relationships that have shaped us, such as a philosophical or artistic lineage. Like the interweaving lines of the shawl’s motif, these influences–inherited or chosen–are woven into our journey, threads that add texture to our life.

Pattern includes both charted and written instructions.

Accessibility: This pattern includes an additional digital pdf in an easy-to-read format. The easy-to-read format is written in 22 point sans serif font (Arial) in all black text, in a single column. It has no italics. All of the directions are fully written out, and fewer abbreviations are used. No charts are used for this version.

CONSTRUCTION

Lineage is a sideways triangular shawl that begins with the right point, with increases worked until the full depth is achieved. Then decreases are worked, ending with the left point. The motif is created with diagonal lines of twisted stitches that interweave with lines of garter stitch, over a background of reverse stockinette. The result is a beautiful fabric on both sides, with the wrong side being an echo of the motif on the right side.
